Do you follow up with people who follow you on Twitter?

I have only just started using twitter in the past week but can already see its potential if used well.
I think if you follow people after they have started following you, then people will stay following you, if however you dont follow them, then you stand the risk of them stopping following you.
With all the tools out there, its pretty easy to find out who you are following but arent following you!
