Ask Twitter

October 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Social Networking, Twitter, mircoblogging

One of the things I love about twitter is if you have a question and have built a robust network of knowledgable friends, all you need to do is ask. As an example, I meeting with my team to discuss the fundemental question of “how do you find relevent blogs to read?” I asked my [...]

Home Depot gets Twitter

August 31st, 2008 · 2 Comments · Twitter

Check out how Home Depot is using Twitter by suggesting things to do in preparation for Hurricane Gustav. They’re short, timely tips delivers to an interested audience. Sure they sell these things, but so do Lowe’s and plenty of other places. Kudos to Sarah who “moonlights on Twitter to help Home Depot’s customers”.
Update: Gotta mention [...]

Poll: RSS or Twitter for blog updates?

August 7th, 2008 · No Comments · Poll, RSS, Twitter

I’m experimenting. As I’m adding blogs to my reading list, I’m checking to see if the blogger is on Twitter, and if they are, I’m following them instead of adding them to my already-overloaded feed reader. Over on BFD, I use twitter tools to notify followers when the blog is updated. It’s pretty handy, because [...]

Email v. Social Media

August 5th, 2008 · 3 Comments · Blogging, Demographics, Email, Social Media, Social Networking, Twitter

So apparently for me, part of the Optimistic Rebel blog is exploring the contradiction in things—as in how can one be optimistic and rebellious at the same time. So this post by Jeff Pulver on e-mail Marketing Mistakes to Avoid in a Web 2.0 World caught my eye.
While I totally agree with his suggestions, I’m [...]

Poll: Do you follow up with new followers on Twitter?

July 31st, 2008 · 1 Comment · Poll, Twitter

Expert social networking connectors know how important the follow-up is when networking. Most people using Twitter will follow you in-turn, but very few follow up with a note thanking you for following them. Fewer still engage new followers. Why do you think that is?

Blog Analytics: Top referral site is still Twitter

July 29th, 2008 · 2 Comments · Analytics, Twitter

After launching this blog a week ago, I posted that referrals from Twitter.com made up 42% of traffic. That number is down to 20%, but Twitter is still driving a significant amount of traffic.

Newspapers passing on costs to readers

July 28th, 2008 · 1 Comment · Blogging, Twitter, mircoblogging

I canceled my subscription to my city’s daily a couple of years ago when they started cutting the local news, and non-local news was mostly re-hashed stuff I’d read on the web news sites the day before (some of which appeared on blogs or microblogs [twitter] before that):
As their print circulation falls, big metro dailies [...]

Blog Analytics: Day One

July 23rd, 2008 · 1 Comment · Analytics, Blogging, Twitter

I intentionally promoted the launch of Optimistic Rebel to my twitter friends only. I wanted to get a sense of the importance of it. Surprised and pleased that 42% of all traffic (which was pretty decent for a launch) were referrals from Twitter.com. Wonder how that will hold up over time?
Do you have analytics [...]
